Taylor has participated in numerous fundraisers, activities, community service projects, retreats and mission trips.
Attending two mission trips; one to San Francisco this past summer of 2008, and one to Mexico in the summer of 2007, which was his favorite because he had so much fun ministering to little kids.
Participating in fundraisers would seem like chores to some students, though selling Ozark Delight suckers was Taylor’s favorite.
“I really got into it and was able to sell a lot because I was so excited about selling them,” said Sallee.
Taylor has also attended the past three Acquire the Fires (ATF) and looks forward to the upcoming one on the first weekend of May, 2009. His favorite band, seen at ATF two years back, is none other than Christian alternate-rock band, Skillet, saying, “They rock with a capital ‘R’!”
Another achievement he feels he needs to be recognized for is his ability of “dunking the basketball by jumping and pushing off the wall (in the Fellowship Hall).”
Overall, being a student leader in Jolt, is more than ministering kids, selling suckers and dunking baskets, it is about going above and beyond for this youth ministry, representing it throughout.
“When I represent Jolt, I try to give the impression that the people in it are respectful, well-rounded, and have a passion for learning about Christ,” said Sallee. “I try to show that Jolt is a safe and fun place for kids to learn about God.”
Other than being involved in the First United Methodist, Taylor breezes through AP classes and is president of the Chess Club at DHS, swims daily at Recreation Center for Club and swims on the Boys Varsity Swim Team at the high school in the spring.
“Even though he is involved in sports he still manages to make it to youth group on Tuesday nights, even if it’s just for a few minutes,” said Forsythe.
In response to the question of how his peers can succeed in Jolt, Sallee said, “The best ways to succeed in your faith journey are to be patient and let God do the work, and to always be as kind and respectful towards others as possible.”
